MEET OUR BRAND | SALT
At SALT we are passionate about connection, community, and ocean conservation. From the start, those things have always been the most important part of our business. Sure, we’re a clothing brand, but we’re also a family, a team of people who just want to make the world a better place.
We have to ask - why not live better? Why not go into everything you do with the best of intentions? Navigating the textile world is tricky. It’s not currently set up for the most sustainable of supply chains. We are working all the time to find better ways to approach production and make the best choices we can. In the end, our hope is that every one of our pieces creates meaningful conversation around minimizing our environmental impact and keeping our Oceans cleaner, no matter what. In this way, we hope that we can be a part of lasting change leading us towards a more conscious future.
Our collection is filled with what we like to describe as sustainable items for a mindful life. With a focus on slow fashion, we aim to help you build a simple, classic, and comfortable wardrobe you love that suits every season. We design with intention so that our pieces are long lasting and multi-functional. Inspired by our Pacific Northwest coastlines, our eco-conscious fabrics respect our natural surroundings both in source and in style. Designed locally, and sewn in Vancouver, we like to keep our operations close to home. We value the people behind our products and what they stand for.
We try to live the messages that we spread. More than anything else, that is being conscious of our impacts. We want how we treat the Earth, each other, and ourselves to guide our daily lives. That includes what we purchase, what we eat, and how we communicate. Let’s live better together.
At SALT we are passionate about connection, community, and ocean conservation. Since our start in 2016, those things have always been the most important part of our business. Yes, we’re a clothing brand, but we’re also a team of people who want to make the world a better place. For us, our brand is the bottle that carries our message.
We have to ask - Why not go into everything you do with the best of intentions? Navigating the textile world is tricky. It’s not set up for sustainable supply chains. Environmental consciousness is having to fight it’s way into this industry that cuts corners, greenwashes, and over produces. By being a little guy we have an advantage to work closer, smarter, and more closely with every aspect of our products. In the end, our goal is that every one of our pieces creates meaningful conversation around minimizing our environmental impact and keeping our Oceans cleaner, no matter what.
Our collection is filled with sustainable items for a mindful life; Seasonless staples that live with you through years, not just months of your life. By focusing on slow fashion, we are able to help build simple, classic, and comfortable wardrobes. We design with intention so that our pieces are long lasting and multi-functional.
Inspired by our Pacific Northwest coastlines, our eco-conscious fabrics respect our natural surroundings both in source and in style. Designed in-house, and sewn in Vancouver, we insist on keeping our operations close to home.
Our sewing facilities are located in Vancouver, B.C. We love having them so close to home. Producing locally means we stay connected to the lifecycle of our garments, and the people who make them. We can visit the facilities any time we need to and cultivate closer relationships with the people responsible for making our clothes. We are a people-first brand and we feel good knowing that our products are produced ethically in facilities that value their employees. We value them too! Plus, it’s fun being able to see where our clothes are made!
SALT’s clothing line is best described as elevated basics for a mindful life. Every clothing item is designed locally by our Founder and Designer Jessica. She truly loves creating pieces that people can feel confident and comfortable in. She loves watching people try on her clothes and finding something that lights them up. She designs with intention so that our pieces are long-lasting and multi-functional, and also inspire conversation. Her way of spreading her passion for the Ocean, and for connecting people in her community, is through her clothing.
We genuinely stand for slow fashion, which means we don’t release new styles often, but we are confident that the ones we have are styles that will last you a long time. That translates to the palette of colours we choose too. A simple palette means making outfits is easy, and you are less likely to get tired of the pieces you have invested in, meaning they will last longer. We want you to have that feeling of satisfaction when you look in your closet and you know that every piece works together, and was produced consciously. That idea makes you want to sigh a big, happy sigh, doesn’t it?
WE WANT YOU TO LOVE YOUR CLOTHES FOR A LONG TIME TO COME. CHOOSING LONG LASTING-FABRICS MADE FROM QUALITY FIBRES IS WHERE WE START.
We do our best to choose the most sustainable options for each of our styles. And let us tell you, it can be a challenging process!
With any fabric, you have to be careful of where your raw materials are coming from and how they are processed. Even with the most sustainable of fibres, many producers will use a chemical heavy process that nearly negates the environmental benefits of the fibre in the first place. It is a big struggle in the textile industry to find the best sources, get the most transparent information, and still be using fabrics that are best for our styles.
We source our fabrics from a few different North American based suppliers. Both offer eco-friendly options that are sourced and produced internationally. We have struggled to find Canadian, or even North American knitting mills. As far as we can tell, they mostly don’t exist. All we can do is trust that we are making the best decisions with the options we have, and always keep moving forward with our research.
The Ocean is our favourite place. Really, is there anywhere more mystical and mysterious on the planet? As much as our business is about creating great clothing, it is also about doing as much as we can to protect and restore our Ocean. Having a passion for the sea make us consider every decision we make. From the content of our fabrics, to our shipping materials, and all of our daily operations. We also try to find as many opportunities as we can to give back to organizations who are working to clean and protect the Ocean. As we grow, we hope to increase the efforts we can put towards Ocean conservation, like organizing community beach clean ups and hosting educational events focused on the main issues threatening our seas. SALT is not just a business, but a platform to raise awareness about how our lifestyles impact the planet around us, and hopefully inspiring lasting change that will preserve this wondrous place we get to call home.
