When I found out I was pregnant with my first child I went through what a lot of new moms go through: a bit of an identity crisis. I was so excited to become a mother and I desperately wanted to be able to spend as much time as possible with my new baby. But I was also exhausted, and honestly? I was questioning who I was as a mother.
It’s a huge shift, becoming a parent, make no mistake. And I struggled.
At the same time I knew I would need to go back to work eventually. To help provide for my family, yes, but also to retain a piece of who I was before kids. Can I pause to say no judgement here? Every new mom is different, and this is just my path to finding out what me and my family needed.
So…how was I supposed to do both? How could I find a way to spend time with my daughter and work?
Enter the snuggly soft Beluga Wrap.
I ended up launching Beluga Baby when my daughter was five months old. I know, I know. I can hear you now. Starting a new business with a newborn? I know it sounds a little crazy, but I would never do it any differently.
I had tried other wraps and carriers and, while I loved the age-old idea of babywearing in a sling, I wasn’t completely happy with what was currently available. Some wraps were too thick, overwhelming, and they made me overheat. Other wraps only stretched in one direction and I felt like I didn’t have a full range of movement.
So I curated my own fabric, a blend of mostly bamboo with a touch of cotton for support and a tiny bit of spandex for that unique four-way stretch.
I wanted to sell something that helped new moms. Really helped them. And I wanted to do it sustainably with products that are natural and good for your baby. This wrap helps moms (and dads) stay close to their babies while allowing mom (or dad) to be hands free. It also reduces infant crying by over 40%.

"I just wanted to send you a little note, thanking you for creating these magical wraps! I am in tears as I write this because I have just had one of the most difficult mornings with my baby girl. She is 10 months old right now, and she always goes down for a nap every morning with no tears, for some reason this morning, she would not stop crying - heartbreaking cant-stop- to-breathe crying. I was beside myself because I couldn't calm her down.
